Integrating technology into the classroom is extremely important. However, it is necessary that the learning comes first and that the technology is NOT simply an add-on, but rather is used to meet the goals of the lesson in a purposeful manner. 

 

 

Math Apps

There are LOTS of math apps for various devices that are available either for free or to purchase that can support math learning in the classroom. It is important to find apps that suit the needs of your students best. Here are some places to search:

 

  • This page on the site Graphite lists math apps from the highest to the lowest rated, with reviews. On the side panel, you can select a Grade and a math topic to narrow your search. 

  • The Apple App Store has lots of apps available for education. To access math-related apps, simply go into iTunes and then the App Store: Click "Education" and then select "Math" under the Collections. Apps are organized according to concepts.

IXL is a Canadian-based website that organizes math activities by Grade. It goes from Kindergarten to Grade 11. Once you click on a grade, activities are organized by math concept. 

Prodigy is a math game for Grades 1 to 6 students. It is Pokemon style and self-paced, so it allows students to work at their level. It is aligned with the Ontario Math Curriculum. Teachers can view student progress via reports.

Cool Math Games is a site with lots of interactive games for students to play that build various skills. 

ABCya has lots of number-related games. Simply click on a Grade (Kindergarten to Grade 5), scroll down to "Numbers" and select a game.

Math- Play has lots of interactive games available. They are organized into math concept and grade (Grades 1 to 8).

Math Playground has many games available to play. They are not organized in any particular manner. 

TVO Kids has games available that focus on math and science for children 11 and under. 

The Khan Academy is full of resources for students, including instructional videos, activities and practice.
